New Year's Banner

Happy New Year!

I made this banner for a New Years Party we had at our place last night. I tried to get it posted on the blog yesterday but ran out of time trying to get everything ready for the party. I started this project on Wednesday, and finished it up on Thursday evening. This was a fun project to complete and I've really enjoyed making banners. I think I will keep this one up until the next one I make.

For this project I used the Cricut (of course). The carts I used for this are Birthday Bash (the banner shape), Martha Stewart Holiday Cakes (for the starburst & circles) & Don Juan (for the font). I used the Gypsy to be able to cut two of the banner shapes from a 12x12 piece of paper. Using the Birthday Bash cart with the Gypsy made making the banner pieces very easy. There are a number of different banner shapes on the cart, and it is really great that the banner shapes have the holes cut out in them. I cut these shapes at 8 inches. I cut the starburst and circles at 4 1/2 and 4 inches, and I cut the font with shadow at 3 1/4 inches.

I used Die Cuts With a View papers. The All Dressed Up Stack, Metalics Stack, and the Glitter Cardstock Metallics Stack I found at Michaels. The colors matched up very well and they cut very easy in the Cricut. One thing I have found while using these thick papers is to use multicut for 2 passes, this makes it much simpler for the Cricut to cut it completely all the way through.

Here are some pics of the banner and some upclose shots of some of the banner pieces. The photos aren't the best, and I wish i could get a pic of the whole thing, but I think the banner is almost 10 feet across end to end. I am glad it fit perfectly across the lip of the ceiling wall. Luck was on my side because I didn't do any measurements before hand.

To hang the banner I strung the pieces on ribbon. I ended up having to use two different ribbons because I didn't have enough to use the same. To join the ribbons I stapled them together. Seems to be holding up pretty well.

Thanks for stopping by and please leave a comment and become a follower if you like!

Also so excited, almost up to 150 followers! Will do a give-a-way once that happens. I have some Close To My Heart stamps that need a new home.

Till next time!
